Eurovision 2021 Previews Part 14: The Final Verdict

All of this year’s entries have been scrutinized, pulled apart and put back together – what did it lead up to? Oh crystal ball, crystal ball… What do the bookmakers go for? How did you out there vote? And who gets Dimivision’s douze? The tension is palpable!

What do you say?

You lovely people out there have been voting and the goblins at casa Dimivision have been crunching the numbers. They took a look at the entries that got the most 5***** and 4**** ratings – here’s your top ten:

  1. Lithuania
  2. Belgium*
  3. Ukraine
  4. France
  5. Italy
  6. Denmark
  7. Russia
  8. Malta
  9. Switzerland
  10. Greece

Finland, San Marino, Iceland and Bulgaria were almost on par with Greece. Denmark was by far the most divisive one, closely followed by Latvia (which got very few 5***** however). The love for Ukraine baffles me, even if I loved the pre-revamp myself.

*Belgium’s score might be influenced by my lovely Belgian galls ‘n palls voting – Hooverphonic is Big in Belgium after all…

Your bottom five include (in order) Germany, Slovenia, Norway, Georgia and all the way at the back of the pack is North Macedonia. These got the most 1* and 2** ratings, even if Germany and Norway scored ratings across the board.

What do the bookies say?

  1. Malta
  2. France
  3. Switzerland
  4. Italy
  5. Iceland
  6. Bulgaria
  7. Sweden
  8. Lithuania
  9. Cyprus
  10. Norway

This raises a couple of questions:

  • Are we really sure that entries that resemble previous winners stand an actual chance? Looking at you, Malta (Toy) and Switzerland (Arcade).
  • Is Eurovision ready for a new rock winner? Hard Rock Hallelujah was a pop song in rock disguise, Italy this year however… Much as I love it, I’m having difficulties believing Europe will fall for it the way the bookies seem to believe.
  • Will Bulgaria, Sweden and Cyprus be able to live up to these expectations? Cyprus can consider itself lucky if it manages a Tamta-like result, imho. Sweden will be lucky to qualify, much like Bulgaria – for different reasons.

France as a front runner triggers 2011 trauma, but at least we have the advantage of already knowing li’l Babs can slay it live. She’s very much a contender…as is Daði from Iceland. He and his Gagnamagnið are still very much a threat, I feel. Despite the slight dismissal by fans. And what Lithuania‘s The Roop are doing in 8th I don’t know. These guys can actually pull it off.

Speaking of underestimating: I’m expecting Belgium and Denmark to shoot up the odds once rehearsals start. And UK in 23rd somehow feels a bit low as well… Will it finally break the right hand side curse?

Dimivision’s douze

Amazingly, my own top ten consists of 5***** and 4**** only. Bonus: there are very few entries I find difficult to tolerate. This year is almost good enough to make up for last year’s cancellation.

(What,? I said *almost*)

Here are the results of the Dimivision jury:

1 point goes to… Russia

2 points go to… Latvia

3 points go to… Malta

4 points go to… France

5 points go to… Iceland

6 points go to… Belgium

7 points go to… Italy

8 points go to… Lithuania

10 points go to… San Marino

12 points go to… Denmark

That’s right, I’m in the mood for a PARTY! Bring it on already!

HAPPY EUROVISION MONTH! Whoop whoop!!

Overly opinionated. Slightly off my rocker. There's no such thing as a guilty pleasure.
