All of this year’s songs have been selected, the running order has been decided: let’s get this show on the road! I’ll be reviewing all of this year’s participants three by three in running order. Lord, gimme strength… Let the Hunger Games…eum…fun begin!
ALBANIA
The Song: Eum, didn’t we hear this two songs ago? Another one Big on Drama, my oh my. But then again, what was I expecting from Albania? LOVING the orchestra in the third act of the song. But THOSE LYRICS!
Standout lyric: ” It don’t make sense, what’s happening” Exactly.
The Voice: And THAT VOICE. If Georgia was flirting with going overboard, this one is already drowning as if there was no door in the vicinity with room enough for two people (#moveoverRose). All a bit too much for my taste.
The Performance: I kinda hope she’ll spice it up Aurela Gace style. Wait, that one didn’t qualify, did it. But I still love it nonetheless. Something with power to balance out Lindita’s vocals would be great.
In one line: *puts earplugs in*
PERSONAL TOTAL:
PREDICTION: I don’t think so. In this semi, this is more of an obvious NON QUALIFIER, I’m afraid.
BELGIUM
The Song: BAM. I mean: for years I’ve been waiting for our country to deliver something stunning, and now RTBF manages to pick two stellar entries back-to-back. This is very non-Eurovision, which makes me love it even more than I already do because of its amazingly bewildering and nicely balanced, cool atmosphere.
Standout lyric: ” Are you ready to take my hand?” Understated, yet beautiful.
The Voice: Blanche’s low register is slightly weird but very intriguing. Her switch to falsetto is stunning and most welcome – kinda love that she drops again for the final chorus. Curious to hear this live, especially with the backing that accompanies Blanche for a large part of the song.
The Performance: Something along the video would be nice, with some lighting effects that are as understated as the song itself. And fingers crossed that Blanche will radiate a bit more than in that video, where she has about as much charm as a wet mop.
In one line: Proud!
PERSONAL TOTAL:
PREDICTION: I’m hardly the one to be playing the patriot, but I get the feeling this will do VERY well. Secretly hoping for a top three, or why not the gold? Never in a million years did I think I’d say that in my lifetime. Obvious QUALIFIER, I’d say.
MONTENEGRO
The Song: Ow Montenegro, you almost never disappoint. It makes absolutely no sense, and that’s exactly what it wants to do. Discolicious.
Standout lyric: ” Come into me from within ” Eum, come again?
The Voice: Well, it’s Deen all over again, no?
The Performance: Deen and Conchita have made a proverbial baby, haven’t they? I just hope he doesn’t feel the need to flash his torso like he does in the video. Not that’s not pleasing on the eye, on the contrary, but I get enough of those self absorbed queens on my Grindr #thanksbutnothanks
In one line: Even better after a bit of space cake.
PERSONAL TOTAL:
PREDICTION: It won’t, will it? I don’t think so. NON QUALIFIER it is. But I won’t complain in the least if it does make the final.
