The Big 2012 (P)Review – Part 6: San Marino & Cyprus

We’re running up to the 2012 Contest, all entries for Baku have been chosen and it’s time to take a closer look at what we can expect to see and hear at the end of May. I’m reviewing everything in order of draw: I’ll first give my general thoughts on the countries’ choices, then I’ll subject them to the DIMI test and finally I’ll score them, accompagnied by a predicition of how I think they’ll do in Baku. I’ll be tackling them in pairs & on the menu today: San Marino & Cyprus.

11. SAN MARINO – The Social Network Song

This is exactly what I want to see eliminated from the Contest: farfetched fluffy farts that make the Contest come across even more ridiculous than it already can (to some ie. The majority of the masses). I’m curious to see how they’ll clarify this song’s about Facebook without mentioning it and I’m sure it will come across stupid, whatever they’re planning. And curious to hear this live as well, I smell Autotune all over the studio version. This is just very wrong – or to say it in its own words: oh oh.

Checkpoint DIMI:
Daft? No. Stupid? Yes.
Intriguing?
Not for a nanosecond.
Modern?
Let’s keep the question rhetorical.
International?
I should hope not.

Personal score:  0/20 – Prediction: Stuck in the semi (of course)

12. CYPRUS – La La Love

Well, nobody ever died of a couple of lalala’s in Eurovision so this should feel right at home. I hear too many computerized vocals in the studio version and I’m itching to hear Ivi Adamou’s live rendition of this bouncy little number. It’s not really my cup of tea I have to say but it sure wouldn’t tarnish next to a David Guetta summer song – it sounds more modern at least than the Romanian and Greek songs in my ears. It’s got a bit of potential and out of those three I think this one would feel least out of place in international charts, although I fear there’s no room for all three in the final and this could very well be the one to lose out.

Checkpoint DIMI:
Daft? Not really, no.
Intriguing?
Not really no.
Modern?
I think so, but it can easily be mistaken for a wannabe as well I feel.
International?
Sure.

Personal score:  12/20 – Prediction: Stuck in the semi

Tomorrow: Denmark & Russia

Overly opinionated. Slightly off my rocker. There's no such thing as a guilty pleasure.

  1. San Marino: thank god I can’t understand a word she is singing, unlike you Dimi, I don’t hate it, moehaha. I’m sure she’s gonna ruin it with some gastly act ont the night itself, but for now: 10/20
Cyprus: the lalala’s bother me, they don’t need to be in this song, it’s not bad, but not great…almost hard to have an oppinion about this one (how unlike me….) 12/20

  2. Please email me with a few tips about how you made your blog site look this cool, I would be appreciative.

    1. I have to admit it’s “only” one of the standard templates made available by WordPress, but indeed a very cool one! When you sign up you get a grand tour of the possibilities and a bit of scrolling through the options is a quick way to decide how you want to design your blog. It’s easy-breezy-Covergirl!
